StoryHouse invites young people to pay attention to the world around them and discover how the same moment can look different through another person's eyes.
Participants learn to observe, ask questions, build characters, and shape what they discover into stories. As the class works together, their individual ideas become an original play written and performed by the participants.
StoryHouse is more than a writing class. It is a creative experience that helps young people look beyond first impressions. By the end, they have created something together that could not have come from one perspective alone.
NOTICE WHAT IS THERE
Every story begins with attention. Participants practice seeing details in people, places, and everyday moments that they might normally pass by.
LOOK THROUGH ANOTHER PERSON'S EYES
They explore how a moment changes when it is seen from someone else's point of view. This teaches them to move beyond their first interpretation.
TURN DISCOVERY INTO STORY
Their observations become characters and scenes. Participants practice dialogue and learn how to shape a story so others can follow it.
CREATE SOMETHING TOGETHER
The class combines its ideas into an original play and brings that play to life. Each participant contributes to the writing and takes part in the final performance.
Participants begin with memory and observation, learning to trust how they naturally sound on the page.
They learn to ask better questions and express themselves more clearly.
Participants discover how revision can sharpen meaning without erasing their individual voices.
They learn to make scenes feel real by paying attention to the senses and choosing specific details.
Participants retell moments from different characters' perspectives and discover how perspective changes a story.
The class brings its ideas together, writes an original play, and performs it as the final StoryHouse creation.
StoryHouse is designed for young people ages 12–18. Some participants may already love writing. Others may be more interested in acting, observing people, creating characters, or sharing ideas with a group. They do not have to think of themselves as writers to belong.
No previous writing or theater experience is required. Each participant can begin with what feels most natural, then try new ways of seeing and creating as the class develops.
StoryHouse makes room for the quiet observer as well as the participant who is ready to step onto a stage.
Kyle Mauldin Sutton created StoryHouse after years of work as an author and publisher. He believes young people become better storytellers when they first learn to notice what others might overlook.
Kyle leads StoryHouse as a guide rather than a traditional classroom teacher. He helps each participant find a comfortable entry point, then encourages them to try unfamiliar viewpoints and contribute to the group’s final production.
As the founder of Mauldin Books, Kyle understands how a small idea becomes a finished work. In StoryHouse, he shares that process while giving participants room to discover what they can create together.
StoryHouse meets Monday through Friday for six weeks during the summer months. Families may choose from two separate daily class times:
MORNING SESSION
8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
AFTERNOON SESSION
1:00–5:00 p.m.
Both sessions follow the same six-week StoryHouse journey. Each class will develop, write, and perform its own original play.

Joining the interest list does not reserve a place or require payment.
Participants will learn to notice what others may overlook and consider how the same moment can look different through someone else’s eyes. They will use those discoveries to create stories that eventually come together as an original play written and performed by the class.
We are currently arranging the StoryHouse location, dates, and tuition; we will announce enrollment information when registration is ready to open.
